The College of Arts and Sciences inducted six new members into its Hall of Fame Oct. 10, 2014, with a ceremony at the Singletary Center for the Arts, bringing the current totals to 38 alumni and 13 emeritus faculty A&S Hall of Fame members.

John L. Esposito - The Future of Islam

One of the most respected American scholarly authority on Islam, John L. Esposito, visited the University of Kentucky Wednesday, September 10, 2014, to discuss “The Future of Islam: Assessing the Elements of Reform, Revival, and Fundamentalism in the Muslim World,” at the Singletary Center Recital Hall.

The event was part of the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences Passport to the World 2014-15 program Year of the Middle East: Crossroads of the World.

A professor of Islamic Studies and International Affairs at Georgetown University, Esposito discussed his book on the portrait of Islam today and tomorrow, drawn by a lifetime of thought and research to sweep away the negative stereotypes of the fastest growing religion in the world. Esposito’s interviews and articles with newspapers, magazines, and the media in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East: The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Economist, The Guardian, The Times of London, CNN, ABC Nightline, CBS, NBC and the BBC.

Celebrate 2013: Ben Chandler

 

 

The Honorable Albert B. Chandler III (Ben Chandler) received his B.A. in history in 1983 and his J.D. in 1986. He was elected Kentucky Attorney General in 1995 and served as the United States Representative for Kentucky's 6th congressional district from 2004 to 2013. A long-time supporter of arts and humanities at the state and national level, he is now executive director the Kentucky Humanities Council.

 

 

Tracy Campbell Discusses History of St. Louis Gateway Arch

UK History professor and Pulitzer Prize nominated author Tracy A. Campbell's latest book, "The Gateway Arch: A Biography," explores the political and economic history of St. Louis and the origins of the city's most recognized structure. Campbell also serves as co-director of UK's Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center.
