Awards

  1. Holman Hamilton Scholarship:  The Holman Hamilton Scholarship, awarded each fall, provides assistance toward tuition for an outstanding first-semester senior. Nominations are by members of the faculty. Senior History majors who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 in History courses and 3.3 overall and who have taken at least nine hours of courses in United States History other than History 108 -109 are eligible to be considered.

     
  2. Daniel B. Rowland Community Internship Award/Robert M. Ireland Undergraduate Research Scholarship: These awards, honoring two former History faculty members, provide $1,500 stipends to support summer research projects or summer internships. To be eligible you must be an undergraduate History major or History minor, who has earned at least 60 credit hours. (2022 Flyer / 2022 Application)

     
  3. Departmental Honors: Graduating seniors who have a 3.5 overall GPA qualify for departmental honors and will be recognized at the spring awards ceremony.

     
  4. Brent Award:  Graduating seniors who have a 3.5 GPA in History coursework, but not an overall 3.5 GPA, will be honored with the Brent Award at the spring awards ceremony.

     
  5. Clifford & Jane Roy History Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in History with an out-of-state status.

1. Caller-Zolondek Travel: Up to two A&S International Scholarships will be awarded to candidates during the summer.

Applicants must:

  • Be an undergraduate major in either History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, or the International Studies Program
  • Not attending any other program, independent study or travel in Europe during, before, or after the summer
  • Have junior or senior academic status at the time of travel
  • Have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0
  • Enrolled in independent work in their chosen majorHave a minimum stay in Europe of 16 days and visit designated cities and sites

2. Italian Renaissance: One scholarship will be awarded to the candidates during the summer.



Applicants must:

  • Be a major in History
  • Not attending any other program, independent study, or travel in Europe before, during or after the summer
  • Have at least a junior academic status at the time of travel
  • Have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0
  • Enrolled in HIS 395, Independent Study on Italian Renaissance
  • Have a minimum stay in Italy of 10 days and visit designated sites in Venice, Florence, Rome and Urbino

3. Spain: The Islamic, Judaic, Christian Encounter:  One scholarship will be awarded to the candidate during the summer.



Applicants must:

  • Be a major in History
  • Not attending any other program, independent study, or travel in Europe before, during or after the summer
  • Be an undergraduate student with at least junior status at the time of travel
  • Have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0
  • Enrolled in HIS 395, Independent Study on Spain: The Islamic, Judaic, Christian Encounter
  • Have a minimum stay in Spain of 10 days and visit designated sites in Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba, Seville, Granada, and Santiago
