Distinguished Scholarly Records

The department’s faculty have achieved distinguished scholarly records.   They include winners of the Bancroft Prize as well as the Curti, Gottschalk, Owsley, and Nevins Prizes and also book prizes from the German Studies Association, the Association of Third World Studies, and the Agricultural History Society. They have won scholarly fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Science Foundation, the National Humanities Center, and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. They have been elected or chosen presidents of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, the History of Education Society, French Historical Studies, the Appalachian Studies Association, and Byzantine Studies.
