As we approach the one-year anniversary of the public release of ChatGPT, we reflect on rapid change and development in generative AI, particularly as it relates to teaching and learning. In addition to taking stock of where we are now and looking ahead to emerging issues, we will focus on ways of teaching with generative AI in the humanities that seek (1) to foster critical perspectives on and critical users of generative AI and (2) to leverage the affordances of new technologies in ways that enhance student learning and engagement.
