History Department Diversity and Inclusion Statement

The University of Kentucky Department of History, in affirming commitment of the College of Arts and Sciences to diversity, seeks to foster and support a respectful, inclusive, and accessible community of faculty, students, and staff. The department takes seriously our commitment to further our efforts to prioritize diversity, inclusion, and equity with respect to faculty, curriculum and governance.  The department recognizes the systemic marginalization of under-represented groups in higher education and is committed to engaging in curriculum and policies that foster respect, greater understanding, and inclusion of all of its members along with the exploration of diverse histories and historical approaches. The department seeks to build and maintain a faculty that supports the increasing diversity of University of Kentucky’s student body. We remain committed to recruiting, mentoring and ensuring the success of faculty and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. The department aspires to be a community of belonging for individuals of different races, ethnicities, genders, sexual identities, abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, ages, religions, and national origins, to pursue diverse courses of study across global contexts.
